We are in the Technological age and in the age of intense competition. It is an acknowledged fact that there are very few A-grade colleges and universities in India which provide quality education and produce industry-ready technocrats or quality medicos. The admission into these prestigious colleges is on the basis of an Entrance exam after Std.12 like the JEE, BITSAT, NEET, AIPMT etc. It is the observation of the academic think-tank of IIT-P in the past 13 years that coaching a child for JEE etc. in 2 years from Std.11 to 12 is certainly possible but a stressful exercise for the student. However, if the student starts preparing for these exams from any of the school years from Std.7-10 by studying Science & Maths in a conceptual manner, the entire process of learning becomes enjoyable and stress-free. It is in this context that IIT-P has designed its IIT Foundation Programs called the PRODIGY Programs since 2006.
The third stage of the PRODIGY Program is called the PRE-GRANDMASTERS Program and is meant for any student who has successfully completed the PRODIGY SENIORS Program. In this Program, the student attends Advanced problem solving sessions in the subjects of Maths & Physics on Sundays.
Chemistry is offered as an optional subject on 1 weekday for PRE-GRANDMASTERS students. The PRE-GRANDMASTERS Program is conducted from June to October end thereby making it possible for Std.10 students to also do the program comfortably.
In the PRE-GRANDMASTERS Program, the student learns to apply the concepts learnt in the SENIORS Program to a wide range of concept-testing problems thereby developing sound problem solving abilities.
Students who have completed the PRE-GRANDMASTERS Program have reported high level of confidence in solving challenging questions in Science & Math and have usually been selected in the prestigious MSTAR batch which is the premier stream of the 2-years GRANDMASTERS program of IIT-P in Std.11-12.
